Back to work...

It's been a while since my last post (sorry - fun in the sun...) but here I am again with some info and ideas for this weekend.

First up - Open Day at The Wharf

This Sunday, Sydney's dedicated arts space is opening its doors for a day of free tours and workshops. Go and have a look at what happens backstage in a theatre, learn how to dance/design/direct. Book quickly!

Number 2 - A Life In Frocks

Tomorrow! Great for anyone who loves clothes and is thinking of a future in fashion. Book even more quickly!

Finally - A Free Concert

Sunday arvo, in the fantastic, artsy suburb of Surry Hills, in the new, award-winning library building. Plenty of great restaurants in the area too - I recommend Yulli's (vegetarian food), which is just next door.

Three text types...

Spoken description of process (informal)
You take a cup and put a teabag in it, or you put some loose leaf tea into a teapot, then you boil some water and pour it into the teapot or cup and you dunk the teabag or leave it to brew. You wait for about three minutes, or longer if you like it strong, then you take out the teabag or pour the tea into a cup. Then, you can add some sugar and/or milk and mix it. Now, you drink it.

Recipe (instructional text)
A cup of tea
Serves 1

Ingredients
250ml water
1 teabag or 1 tsp loose leaf tea
Sugar*
1 splash milk*
1 slice lemon*
* = optional

Method
Boil the water in a kettle or a pan, then put a teabag in a cup or some loose leaf tea into a teapot and add the boiling water. Leave it to infuse for three minutes (or longer to make it stronger), then remove the teabag or pour the tea into a cup, straining it as you do.
Add sugar and milk or lemon to taste.

Word Art

Artlex is a very ugly site and not particularly user-friendly, but it is a quite useful source of art and design vocabulary and definitely worth investigating...

A Helping Hand

This website contains examples of information reports. They are very basic, intended as they are for school children, but the information and examples of structure they give are quite valid. I hope that helps...

This one may be of some use too... ;-)

Splash landing

If you want to have some fun and see some eccentric industrial designs this weekend, you should go to the Red Bull Flugtag event on Sunday the 7th. People make their own aircraft and see how far they can fly before crashing into the water of Sydney Harbour. You can even take part if you are feeling brave!
